Criminal Defense Attorney Profile, Birmingham and Dothan, Alabama
Martin Adams, Partner
As a prosecutor and now criminal defense attorney focusing on federal corporate crimes, Mr. Adams has practiced law in Alabama and Georgia for nearly two decades. Before becoming a founding partner of Parkman, Adams & White in 2003, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Alabama’s Houston County where he prosecuted over 50 criminal cases. Mr. Adams is admitted to all state and federal courts in both Alabama and Georgia and has a history of successfully defending clients in Embezzlement, insurance fraud, and other white collar criminal cases. He has also proven his reputation for excellence in the U.S. Court of Appeals 11th Circuit.
Mr. Adams is a highly successful litigator in cases with even the highest stakes. As part of the defense team for former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy, Mr. Adams has a history of success with cases of the highest complexity.
The HealthSouth case was one of the largest corporate fraud cases in United States history. The United States Department of Justice accused Mr. Scrushy of violating certain provisions of the newly enacted Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Designed to hold corporate executives more accountable, federal prosecutors used the Act to hold Scrushy responsible for more than 2 billion dollars in accounting fraud. As a result of rigorous and sophisticated defense by Parkman, Adams & White, in 2005 Scrushy was acquitted of all 36 counts against him. When the stakes were highest, Mr. Adams and his partners proved successful.
A victorious white collar criminal defense for Alabama’s HealthSouth CEO is just one example.
The HealthSouth case brought Mr. Adams well-deserved national attention, but it was only one example of his success in white collar criminal defense. Mr. Adams has also received well-deserved recognition for his defense in one of the largest counterfeit trafficking cases in U.S. History. Additionally, when prosecutors tried to convict Stefan Erikson of international embezzlement in California, once again Mr. Adams and his partners proved successful. These are only a small example of the wide-variety of cases that Mr. Adams has defended. With a long history in criminal defense in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, and Georgia, Mr. Adams has a wide variety of knowledge and skills to draw upon.
Experience that counts in criminal defense
